Akademgorodok (in russian: Академгородок) is one of the most unique places in Russia. Located in South Siberia - 15 miles from third largest city in Russia - Novosibirsk, and ~400 miles from border with China.
Akademgorodok is a city made of a powerful scientific complex - there are over 40 research institutions concentrated here, an agricultural academy, medical academy, a national level university (Novosibirsk State University), and a variety of community amenities and apartment buildings and houses. It is located in the center of birch and pine forest on the shore of the Ob Sea, a man-made reservoir on river Ob. Today there are over 100,000 people living in the Novosibirsk Scientific Centre.
